Program of Brazil-FAO International Cooperation

School feeding as an educational strategy for a healthy life

Since 2020, three editions of this course have been conducted through the Brazil-FAO Cooperation in School Feeding and have been offered to countries in the region. In 2023, due to its international success, the course was adapted and also made available to Brazilian professionals. All the information about the editions can be found on this page.

The first edition of the virtual course 'School feeding as an educational strategy for a healthy life' was launched in October 2020. The activity was promoted by the regional project Consolidation of School Feeding Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, within the framework of the Brazil-FAO Cooperation.

The course enhanced the skills of nearly 2,100 professionals and technicians in the fields of education, nutrition, social development, and agriculture from Peru, Colombia, and Guatemala. The training integrated the actions of the Sustainable School Feeding Network (RAES), promoted by the Government of Brazil, represented by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ABC/MRE), the National Fund for Educational Development of the Ministry of Education (FNDE/MEC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The course was divided into 12 virtual classes with 90 hours/class, weekly, broadcast on various communication channels such as YouTube, Twitter and other media.

It was designed for a wide range of participants, including teachers, school directors, nutritionists, school feeding program managers at municipal or departmental levels, national-level managers, and technicians, among others. Participants had access to numerous resources such as texts, videos, and other pedagogical materials available on a virtual platform to facilitate discussions on the topic of school feeding in the three countries. The contents were developed by the regional project Consolidation of School Feeding Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the support of the participating governments.
