General situation during July 2026
Moroccan Locust (DMA) natural cycle has been completed in all remaining parts of Central Asian (CA) countries at the end of the reporting period. In Azerbaijan, Georgia and the Russian Federation, DMA mating and egg-laying started. Italian Locust (CIT) die off occurred in southern Central Asia, with mating and egg-laying progressing in other parts. Fledging began in Caucasus and the Russian Federation. Asian Migratory Locust (LMI) fledging and mating started in Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. Summer surveys of hoppers and adults (on egg-laying sites) continued in most countries. In July, control operations covered 682 762 hectares (ha) in all Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) countries.

General Situation during April 2021 Forecast for May 2021 Moroccan Locust (DMA) hopper development was in progress in Central Asia (CA) and in Azerbaijan. In Uzbekistan, dense hopper bands formed in the south. Italian Locust (CIT) hatching started in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. During the forecast period, DMA hatching will start in Georgia, Armenia and the Russian Federation and fledging and mating will occur in the southern CA countries.

General Situation during February and March 2021 Forecast for April 2021 Moroccan Locust (DMA) hatching started significantly earlier than last year in Tajikistan, as a result of a warm weather and close to the normal rainfall in February. In Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, DMA hatching was recorded during the second and third decades of March. During the forecast period, DMA hopper development will continue in the above countries.

General situation during August 2020 Forecast for September 2020 Italian and Asian Migratory Locusts (CIT and LMI) finished mating and egg-laying and started to die-off in most countries and generally, the situation was calm. In five countries – Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – anti-locust treatments had finished in July. In the other five countries, campaign continued. About 10 000 ha were treated in Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation each.
