No. 63 Agricultural Outlook 2025–2034: Medium-term prospects for global agricultural commodity markets
27/03/2026
The OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2025–2034 presents a ten-year baseline scenario for global agricultural and fish markets, highlighting expected developments in consumption, production, trade and prices. Consumption of livestock and fish products is projected to rise, driven mainly by income and population growth in middle-income countries, while intake in low-income countries remains well below levels associated with the FAO Healthy Diet Basket.
No. 57 Trade in fisheries and aquaculture products: Global markets, production, and food security
27/03/2026
International trade in fisheries and aquaculture products plays a critical role in global food security, employment and income generation, with aquatic foods providing a significant share of protein supply and supporting extensive cross-border value chains. Global production is projected to continue expanding, driven primarily by aquaculture, which now accounts for more than half of total output and an increasing share of internationally traded species.
No. 61 The dynamic impact of global shipping costs on the food import bill
27/03/2026
Maritime transportation is essential for countries to access basic goods in global markets and to support food security and nutrition, as almost one-quarter of global agricultural production is traded internationally. Disruptions can place significant strain on maritime transport networks, forcing longer shipping routes, increasing fuel and insurance costs and contributing to sharp rises in freight rates.
No. 62 Trade and Nutrition: Association and policy approaches
27/03/2026
Trade is fundamental to agrifood systems, connecting surplus and deficit regions and supporting a more reliable supply of safe, diverse and sufficient food. Openness to trade increases food availability and dietary diversity and supports economic growth, employment and the efficient use of natural resources.
No. 58 Leveraging environment-related provisions linked to agriculture, fisheries and forestry in regional trade agreements to strengthen environmental governance
27/03/2026
Environment-related provisions for agriculture, fisheries and forestry (Ag-ERPs) have become an increasingly important instrument for aligning trade commitments with environmental sustainability objectives, influencing policy trajectories across a wide range of agrifood sectors.
No. 59 Advancing women’s participation in agrifood trade through inclusive policies
27/03/2026
Agrifood trade presents significant potential to enhance women’s economic participation and support broader development outcomes, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where women play essential roles across production, processing and marketing. Despite the expansion of global agricultural trade over the past two decades, women continue to face systemic barriers that limit their ability to engage in and benefit from commercial opportunities.
No. 60 The WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies: FAO’s support to Members in its implementation
27/03/2026
The entry into force of the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies represents a major development in global efforts to align trade policy with sustainable resource management, introducing binding disciplines on subsidies contributing to illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, overfished stocks and unregulated high-seas activities.
No. 56 Thirteenth WTO Ministerial Conference: what outcomes for agriculture and fisheries?
06/05/2024
The 13th Ministerial Conference of the WTO (MC13) took place from 26 February to 2 March 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Conference was chaired by the Minister of State for Foreign Trade of the host country. Agriculture and fisheries subsidies were once more at the centre of the deliberations, but no concrete outcome was possible due to differences and divergence of positions among Members
No. 55 Price transmission in food markets
15/12/2023
This policy brief assesses whether domestic food markets in developing countries respond to changes in international prices and how fast. Price transmission – namely the extent to which changes in international food prices lead to changes in local food prices – is central to assessing the functioning of markets.
No. 54 Trends in inclusion of environmental related provisions linked to the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors in regional trade agreements
14/12/2023
Agriculture, fisheries and forestry are closely linked to the environment and depend on it for their long-term productivity and sustainability. However, if not properly managed, these three sectors can have a negative impact on the environment. Agricultural trade can also have an impact on the environment, and in recent years there has been a renewed focus on how to balance sustainable development and trade liberalization.
