In a groundbreaking achievement for climate science, the first deep ice cores have been successfully extracted from the Kon Chukurbaschi ice cap in the Pamirs. Indigenous Peoples’ food and knowledge systems hold vital lessons for building climate-resilient mountain communities. This was the key message of a joint event organized by the Global-Hub on Indigenous Peoples’ Food Systems and the Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS) during the World Food Forum 2025 at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) headquarters in Rome.

The fourth edition of the Mountain Futures International Conference, revitalized global collaboration on inclusive bioeconomy approaches for mountain regions.  This year’s conference, held under the theme “Inclusive Bioeconomy: Mountain-based approaches for nature positive and climate resilience”, advanced discussions on innovative and inclusive mountain-based solutions that link biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods and circular bioeconomy models.
