Under the auspices of His Excellency Eng. Abdulrahman Al-fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture (MEWA), the first international forum for sustainable agriculture, was launched in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the theme “Agricultural development and optimal use of natural resources”. The forum aims to discuss and address challenges, explore new innovative solutions for a more sustainable future in agriculture, and draw global attention to the most recent technological advances in the agriculture sector. The forum will bring together experts from the industry, policymakers, thought leaders, and participants worldwide.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) have launched today the RedSeaFish project, to promote sustainable fisheries management in the Red Sea Large Marine Ecosystem.

“The RedSeaFish project provides a collaborative framework to preserve and protect whole ecosystems efficiently while also providing opportunities for coastal Arab and African Red Sea countries to benefit sustainably from the services they render,” said AbdulHakim Elwaer, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa.

Rabat, 15 November , 2023 -The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Near East Plant Protection Organization (NEPPO), in collaboration with the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) at the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests are organizing a regional workshop on the production, conservation, and utilization of certified propagation materials for fruit trees in the Near East and North Africa (NENA) in Rabat, Morocco, this week.

Depuis le déclenchement du conflit au Soudan en avril 2023, qui a plongé près de la moitié de la population dans une crise humanitaire, l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour l’alimentation et l’agriculture (FAO) a distribué presque 10 000 tonnes de semences à 1 million de ménages agricoles, soit 5 millions de personnes, juste à temps pour la période des semis cruciale allant de juin à septembre 2023. Cette action a été possible grâce au soutien généreux de ses partenaires fournisseurs de ressources et à la collaboration de partenaires opérationnels locaux dévoués.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and members of the Arab Forum for Rural Advisory Services (AFRAS) have participated in The fourteenth General Annual Meeting of the Global Forum for Rural Advisory Services (GFRAS).

 

For two days in the Cairo Water Week 2023, The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) organized the "FAO Track at the CWW 2023" in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and other development partners.

The FAO Track at CWW aimed to provide a platform to deliberate and present FAO’s various initiatives, projects, and activities related to water planning, management, governance, productivity, and sustainability. The event coincided with FAO World Food Day 2023, which highlights water as a fundamental resource for life on Earth.

In a collaborative effort to combat desertification, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the National Center of Vegetation Cover and Combating Desertification (NCVC) embarked on a study visit to the Gansu Desert Control Research Institute in China (GDCRI). This visit comes after an extensive online exchange capacity-building programme focused on land degradation control, forest management, rangeland preservation, and the establishment of national parks. The study visit aimed to gain practical insights and knowledge from the GDCRI expertise in tackling desertification and promoting sustainable land management practices. 

On the occasion of World Food Day 2023, the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), organized a grand celebration in Hail. The event was held under the auspices of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Prince of Hail. This celebration was made possible with the support of partners, including Hail Region Municipality, Almarai, National Seeds Agricultural Production Company (NSPC), LEHA Agriculture, and JAL and also served as the inauguration of the agricultural extension convoy activities in the region, known as the "القافلة_الزراعية_الإرشادية" (Agricultural Extension Convoy) and Pomegranate and Figs Festival.

The loss of biodiversity is seriously undermining our ability to feed and nourish an ever-growing global population. Biodiversity includes not only the plants and animals that we eat and that provide feed, fuel and fibre. Biodiversity for food and agriculture also includes the myriad of organisms that support food production: The beetles, worms and micro-organisms that keep soils fertile; the insects and birds that pollinate our crops and keep pests in check, the animals and plants that nourish the fish we catch and the trees and plants that filter our water and regulate our climate.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Atomic Energy Agency, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture in Jordan launched today the first day of the Regional Laboratory Training within the framework of “Implementation of the Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) Global Eradication Programme (PPR GEP II) in Jordan, including assessment of risks, distribution and establishment of a reliable surveillance system”. Funded by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).

L’Organisation des Nations Unies pour l’alimentation et l’agriculture (FAO) a organisé un événement régional de deux jours intitulé «Engager les villes dans la transformation durable et inclusive des systèmes agroalimentaires dans la région du Proche-Orient et de l’Afrique du Nord». L’événement fait partie des efforts de la FAO dans la région pour encourager l’échange de connaissances et d’expériences entre les parties prenantes et promouvoir des politiques et des actions efficaces pour le développement de systèmes agroalimentaires durables, inclusifs et résilients dans les villes.
