Monthly Report (May 2025)

A new publication Incorporating environmental flows into “water stress” Indicator 6.4.2: the role of the environmental management class in the estimation of environmental flow requirements is available online. It is part of the series SDG 6.4 – Monitoring Sustainable Use of Water Resources  and it explores how the ecosystem's condition, as defined by the environmental management class, affects the estimation of environmental flows and shows how to determine the environmental management class for a particular section of a river.

FAO won the SDG Custodian Agency Prize at the seventh annual GEO SDG Awards, which recognizes the productivity, innovation, novelty and exemplary efforts in the use of Earth observations to support sustainable development.

Latin American food and agriculture statistics are front and center this week with the 32nd session of LACCAS happening this week in Asuncion (Paraguay). 

SilvaGRIS makes available the data countries report to FAO for monitoring the implementation of the Global Plan of Action for the Conservation, Sustainable Use and Development of Forest Genetic Resources and for preparing global assessments on these resources. 

Empowering farmers, Indigenous Peoples, local communities and scientists to conserve and use genetic resources is key to resilient agrifood systems
