The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture: a major instrument that illustrates this year's WFD Theme "Agriculture and intercultural dialogue"
India has played an active role in the process leading to the ratification of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture because it strongly believes in the interdependency of people, countries and cultures towards ensuring an equitable share of resources. Mrs. Radha Singh, Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture visited FAO this year and reiterated her country's commitment to boost international cooperation and dialogue.

Intercultural exchange in agriculture can save crops and lives |

Cassava, a traditional crop in many parts of the world and a most consumed staple food in many African countries, is faced with a new outbreak of the mosaic disease. Research initiatives and programmes are being worked out, in FAO, in collaboration with partners in Africa, Latin America and Asia, in order to develop pest resistant varieties but also diversify their use.

Beatrice Faumuina has been appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations.
Beatrice Faumuina has been New Zealand's top ranking track and field athlete for a number of years, won 10 national titles between 1993 and 2005, Ambassador for Oceania of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
This is what she declared as she accepted her new title from FAO Director-General, Mr. Jacques Diouf.
