Agricultural expansion is responsible for almost 90 percent of deforestation worldwide, making it a leading driver of biodiversity and habitat loss. Cropland expansion is the main driver, causing almost 50 percent of global deforestation, followed by livestock grazing, which accounts for 38.5 percent.

This report summarizes the main results of FAO Cuba in 2022. At a time when Latin America and the Caribbean are determined to face and overcome the most complex humanitarian, economic and social crisis in recent decades, FAO in Cuba continues to take steps towards the consolidation of its essential goals, with more than USD 57 million mobilized between 2019 and 2022, in support of the priority areas signed with the government in the Country Program Framework 2020-2024.

The Policy Benchmarks are based on the recommendations established in international reference policies, complemented by other policy instruments that set scientifically based objectives. The Policy Benchmarks are part of the methodology "National self-assessment of existing capacities to contain AMR through medicated feed policies and their governance", designed by FAO in a joint effort with 7 South American countries.
