En 1999, durante el 23.º período de sesiones de la Comisión del Codex Alimentarius, se estableció el Comité Coordinador Regional para el Cercano Oriente, que reúne a los países de la región del Cercano Oriente (para la FAO) y de la región del Mediterráneo Oriental (para la OMS). El comité celebró su primera reunión en El Cairo (Egipto), en 2001.
El actual coordinador regional para el Cercano Oriente tiene su sede en la Autoridad de Alimentos y Medicamentos de Arabia Saudita, en Riad.
Son objetivos del coordinador, a la hora de liderar a la región en el Codex, potenciar el desarrollo y el fortalecimiento de los puntos de contacto del Codex y los comités nacionales del Codex, así como mejorar la comunicación y la coordinación entre los miembros del CCNE, con otras regiones y con la Secretaría del Codex.
Otro de sus objetivos es desarrollar el intercambio de conocimientos científicos y técnicos entre los países con más experiencia de la región y los que cuentan con menos experiencia.
El coordinador se propone fomentar el uso de las normas del Codex como base para la legislación y las normativas nacionales y continuar el trabajo de desarrollo y revisión de las normas del Codex teniendo en cuenta los intereses regionales.

World Food Safety Day event in the Islamic Republic of Iran to discuss future of food safety
The Iran National Standards Organization (INSO) will celebrate World Food Safety Day this year with the cooperation of some organizations including the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST) and the National Nutrition and Food Technology Research Institute (NNFTRI) in recognition of the 60th anniversary of Codex Alimentarius.
INSO is planning to hold an in-person event titled “The Future of Food Safety” for World Food Safety Day on 13 June, which will take place in Tehran in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Kuwaiti authorities produce World Food Safety Day videos
In a celebration of World Food Safety Day, the State of Kuwait has taken a step to promote the significance of food standards.
Under the slogan "Food Standards Save Lives", the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition in Kuwait has published videos aimed at raising awareness among the public regarding the importance of food standards.

Second Arab Food Safety Summit planned for Saudi Arabia
A team of Food Professionals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has planned a World Food Safety Day-related symposium in the three cities: Jeddah, Riyadh and Khobar.
This event will be the second of its kind in the Kingdom and will attract food professionals from the industry, academia and regulatory bodies. The first day will be a conference where six speakers will be speaking on food safety-related regional matters.

Egypt’s New Assiut Technological University plans World Food Safety Day lectures
The Faculty of Food Industry Technology at the New Assiut Technological University in Assiut, Egypt will celebrate World Food Safety Day. World Food Safety Day Celebration 2022 in Qatar

Saudi authorities look at modern foods, antimicrobial resistance and consumer action for World Food Safety Day
On the occasion of World Food Safety Day, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) assembled a session on the “Safety and Sustainability of Modern Food” that covered several topics including:

Modern protein alternatives
Food innovation
The objective for this initiative was to promote food safety culture, compliance with food standards and the reduction of food risks.

World Food Safety Day celebrated in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
An event for World Food Safety Day in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was held at Madareem Crown Hotel Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and was attended by more than 150 food professionals. Attendees were from government, academia and the private sector.

Saudi Airlines Catering Company celebrates World Food Safety Day
On the World Food Safety Day Saudi Airlines Catering Company conducted several workshops on food safety. These workshops cover the importance of food safety, best international practices to maintain food safety and quality and highlighted the WHO five keys to safer food.
