CCAFRICA has been involved in strengthening National Codex Committees in Lesotho,Swaziland and Zimbambwe. This has empowered CCAFRICA to participate in the global standard development process and reap the benefits of implementing Codex Standards. CCAFRICA acknowledges the support of FAO in this endevour. A workshop sponsored by the AU-IBAR was held in December 2015 in Senegal on Strengthening of National Codex Committees in the ECOWAS region block.

A camera crew from Flooded Cellar are currently in Lebanon making a video for Codex that looks at the relevance and importance of Codex standards, guidelines and codes of practices to the Near East region. CCAFRICA was central in development of WHO :Safer Food For All document which is aimed to simplify application of the HACCP Principles in Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs). CCAFRICA closely collaborated with WHO in the exercise.

The Eighth session of the FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for the Near East (CCNEA) took place in FAO HQ Rome from 1-5 June. Regional coordinating committees are responsible for defining the problems and needs of the region concerning food standards and food control and are also tasked with developing regional standards for food products that move exclusively or almost exclusively in intra-regional trade. The Codex Secretariat in Peru has put together a wonderful video from World Health Day on April 7th which exactly captures the spirit the work Standard setting and Codex does in contributing to #safefood. You will see some familiar Codex faces and many of those who work behind the scenes in Peru. Importantly, the video also captures stall holders and vendors at work - all part of the process of ensuring that food is in every home safely.

Belize Internship in Costa Rica. Within the framework of twinning project of CCLAC and with the support of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), in November 2014, three officials visited Costa Rica from Belize for the purpose of perform an internship to receive a training on management and planning of Codex Alimentarius. The succcess of tourism in the Cook Islands has led to an increasing dependence on food imports. Harmonising national food safety standards with those of the Codex Alimentarius will enable the islands to better protect their communities and the tourist industry.
