Launched under the patronage of First Lady Emine Erdoğan, Türkiye’s Zero Waste initiative marked its eighth anniversary this week, celebrated as a homegrown environmental project that has grown into a global movement recognized by the United Nations.

The updated legislation will introduce binding food waste reduction targets, to be met at national level by 31 December 2030: 10% from food processing and manufacturing and 30% per capita from retail, restaurants, food services and households.

Under the banner Sustainable Transformation of Municipal Markets in Panama: Circular Economy and Zero Waste, the initiative is reimagining markets as spaces where waste is turned into value—recovering, recycling, and reinvesting back into the community.

In Vilnius, capital of the Baltic state of Lithuania, fly larvae have officially been given the job of processing the 2,700 tonnes of food waste the city's 607,000 residents put out for collection each year, alongside that of the six neighbouring councils.
