6 December 2018, Rome. The signing ceremony of the FAO-China South-South Cooperation Tripartite Agreement between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the People’s Republic of China, and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka took place at FAO headquarters on 6 December 2018. The aim of this South-South Cooperation project is to help Sri Lanka boost the production and commercialization of fruit crops among the value chain actors in the country.

Urgent legislative and policy measures crucial to ensure zero hunger
FAO and parliamentarians from eastern Africa, together with Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)and East African Community (EAC)have called for robust legislative frameworks and increased funding to intensify the fight against hunger and malnutrition in the subregion. Acknowledging the need for specific legal and policy measures to ensure zero hunger, lawmakers noted the criticality of concerted, decisive and urgent actions. The reports showcase success stories from around the world and highlight the importance of multilateralism and flexible funding to achieve the SDGs
Yesterday, at FAO headquarters in Rome, the Organization launched two new reports, showcasing impact created around the world thanks to FAO’s collaboration with two remarkable partners: Belgium and Sweden. The reports were introduced during a side event of the 160th session of the FAO Council, shedding light on the long-standing, wide-ranging and solid partnership between the Organization and the two countries.
