Agreement covers joint activities including aquatic animal disease diagnostics and management to expand the work of FAO’s Emergency Prevention System (EMPRES)
FAO and Mississippi State University (MSU) will step up cooperation on FAO’s new Global Aquaculture Advancement Partnership (GAAP) programme and FAO’s Emergency Preparedness and Response (EMPRES) programme to improve the capacity of developing countries in fish health and aquaculture.  FAO Deputy Director-General Daniel Gustafson and the President of the Mississippi State University (MSU), Mark Keenum, signed a joint declaration in the presence of FAO’s Director of the Office for Partnerships, Advocacy and Capacity Development (OPC), Marcela Villarreal. General Assembly’s 3rd Committee discusses indigenous issues
“With their wealth of ancestral knowledge”, indigenous and tribal peoples make for “key partners in the fight against hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity”, remarked FAO’s Sharon Brennen-Haylock, as the General Assembly’s Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Affairs (“3rd”) Committee opened discussions in New York on the rights of indigenous peoples. Agreement covers food security, right to food, land tenure rights and sustainable development
The non-governmental organization Deutsche Welthungerhilfe  and FAO will work more closely in their fight against hunger and poverty. The organizations signed an agreement on Monday in Rome, to promote the progressive realization of the right to food and improvements of the governance of land tenure for the benefit of all, with an emphasis on vulnerable and marginalized people. “Only if we work together will we be able to successfully eradicate hunger and poverty,” said FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva. “Cooperation with civil society groups like Welthungerhilfe is crucial to make the right to adequate and healthy food a reality.”...
