International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

After the success of G-20, India will now host a big program related to farmers, 150 countries will participate.

For the first time, a global symposium on farmers' rights is being organized in India by the Plant Variety and Farmers Protection Authority (PPVFRA). Agricultural scientists from 150 countries of the world will participate in this program which will run from 12 to 15 September at the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) Complex in New Delhi. The Agriculture and Food Organization (FAO) of the United Nations is also actively participating in this. President Draupadi Murmu will inaugurate it on Tuesday. After the end of the G-20 meeting, a big program is going to be organized in the agriculture sector. India has shown a new path to the world by being the first to enact an Act on the rights of farmers.

In the inaugural ceremony, 'Plant Genome Savior Community Award' of Rs 10 lakh each will be given to six farmer communities for the year 2021 and 2022. This award is given for the conservation and promotion of indigenous and traditional varieties. Whereas, 20 other farmers will be given an award of Rs 1.5 lakh each. On this occasion, the President will also inaugurate the Plant Authority building and online plant variety registration portal. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will also be present on this occasion.
