Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region

Annual Contributions of Member Countries to the Commission’s Trust Fund

The annual contributions of member countries to the CLCPRO (Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region) trust fund are essential for maintaining its preventive control strategy against desert locust invasions. These contributions have increased significantly over the years, tripling since 2011 to reach a total annual amount of approximately 639,000 dollars.

The funds are used to support various activities, including planning, training, research, and effective response to locust threats, ensuring food security and livelihoods in affected regions.

This joint financial effort highlights the commitment of member countries to maintain and strengthen regional locust control measures. The annual contributions of member countries to the CLCPRO special allocation fund are calculated based on each country’s agricultural Gross Domestic Product (AGDP). This method ensures that contributions are proportional to the agricultural economic capacity of each member.

By using the AGDP as a basis for calculation, the system fairly distributes financial responsibility among countries according to their respective agricultural productivity and economic strength. This approach maintains a balanced and equitable funding mechanism, supporting the Commission’s efforts in controlling desert locust invasions and safeguarding agricultural livelihoods in the region.
