Niamey - During his mission to Niger, the Executive Secretary of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO), Mr Mohamed Lemine Hamouny, was received in audience this Tuesday by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Colonel Mahaman Elhadj Ousmane, in the presence of the FAO Acting Representative in Niger, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and the Director General of the National Desert Locust Control Centre (CNLA).

Algiers - Days after their graduation ceremony at the Specialized Technological Institute for Agricultural Training (ITSFA) in Algiers, the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) received the ten graduates of its first Senior Technician in Desert Locust Control cohort at its headquarters in Algiers. The gathering, organized in their honour, was an opportunity to mark the completion of thirty months of training and to pay tribute to the Algerian institutions that supported them throughout their journey.

Algiers - The Specialized Technological Institute for Agricultural Training (ITSFA) in Algiers hosted today the end-of-cycle thesis defences of the first cohort of Senior Technicians in Plant Protection, specializing in Desert Locust Control, organized under the Regional Training Plan (PFR V) of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO).

Algiers - As part of the emergency technical cooperation project TCP/LIB/4003, FAO and the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO), in collaboration with the National Institute for Plant Protection (INPV) in Algiers, organized a specialized training on health and environmental monitoring for five technicians from the National Committee for Desert Locust Control in Libya (NCDLC).

Nouakchott - In response to the significant Desert Locust activity recorded since June 2026 in several countries of the western region, the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) is organizing in Nouakchott (Mauritania) a Regional Planning Workshop for the 2026 Summer Campaign of Desert Locust Control.

Cairo - An interregional workshop bringing together the three Desert Locust control commissions (CLCPRO, CRC and SWAC) and the FAO Desert Locust Information Service (DLIS) opened this Sunday in Cairo. The meeting, scheduled to run until 25 June, aims to present the improvements introduced to Desert Locust data collection and analysis tools, as well as to strengthen the knowledge of locust information officers from member countries of the three commissions.

Tunis (Tunisia) -The Executive Secretary of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO), Mr. Mohamed Lemine Hamouny, was received in audience this Wednesday by His Excellency Mr. Ezzeddine Ben Cheikh, Minister of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Maritime Fisheries of the Republic of Tunisia. The meeting was held in the presence of Mr. Nabil Assaf, Coordinator of the FAO Sub-Regional Office for North Africa and FAO Representative in Tunisia, and Ms. Naïma Mahfoudhi, Director General of Plant Health and Agricultural Inputs Control.

Agadir (Morocco) - In the face of the persistent threat posed by the Desert Locust to food security and the livelihoods of rural populations, the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) launched, this Monday in Agadir, a Regional Training of Trainers on Desert Locust Spraying Techniques. Organized in collaboration with the National Desert Locust Control Centre of Morocco (CNLAA), this session brings together for one week experienced surveyors and specialists from the CLCPRO member countries as well as from the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Central Region (CRC).

Algiers (Algeria) - The Executive Secretariat of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) received, this Thursday in Algiers, His Excellency Colonel Mahaman Elhadj Ousmane, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Niger, on the sidelines of a high-level official mission carried out by the Nigerien delegation in Algeria.

Agadir (Morocco) - As part of the Master’s programme in Desert Locust Science, the Executive Secretary of CLCPRO, Dr Mohamed Lemine Hamouny, delivered a module on preventive control of the desert locust to students, from 29 March to 4 April 2026.
