The Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) is holding the Joint Meeting of its 11th Session and the 17th Meeting of its Executive Committee in Marrakech, bringing together representatives of member countries, international organisations and technical and financial partners. This meeting, held from 10 to 14 February and organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests of the Kingdom of Morocco, marks an essential milestone in the consolidation of regional efforts to preventively combat the desert locust.

Algiers, 2 February 2025 – The Commission for the Control of Desert Locusts in the Western Region (CLCPRO) and the Algerian Space Agency (ASAL) today formalised a strategic partnership by signing a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening the Commission's capabilities in terms of surveillance and preventive management against the risks posed by desert locusts through the use of space technologies.

N’Djamena, le 03/12/2024 – In collaboration with the National Locust Control Agency (ANLA), the Commission for the Control of the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) today officially handed over two (02) locust surveillance drones to the Chadian government.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO), Dr. Mohamed Lemine Hamouny, participated in the joint meeting of the 33rd session of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Central Region (CRC) and the 37th meeting of the Executive Committee, held in Kuwait City from 24 to 28 November 2024.

08/10/2024 - As part of the follow-up to the recommendations of the last session of the CLCPRO, the Executive Secretary of the CLCPRO, Dr. Mohamed Lemine Hamouny, met with the Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Cabo Verde, Mr Gilberto Silva, to discuss Cabo Verde's accession to the Commission, which was approved by the last statutory session of the CLCPRO in 2022. The meeting focused in particular on the postponement of the next session and on progress regarding the country's accession to the CLCPRO.

The Commission for Controlling Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) officially launched today a joint prospecting effort focused on the use of surveillance drones in locust control. This major event, which is being held from 1 to 10 October 2024 in Akjoujt in northern Mauritania, marks a crucial step in optimising prospecting operations through the use of new technologies.

During a visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Hamouny, Executive Secretary of the CLCPRO, met with Mr. Hocine Latli, Director of Economic Relations and International Cooperation at the General Directorate for Multilateral Relations, to discuss strategic issues for cooperation between the CLCPRO and Algeria.
