Tunis (Tunisia) -The Executive Secretary of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO), Mr. Mohamed Lemine Hamouny, was received in audience this Wednesday by His Excellency Mr. Ezzeddine Ben Cheikh, Minister of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Maritime Fisheries of the Republic of Tunisia. The meeting was held in the presence of Mr. Nabil Assaf, Coordinator of the FAO Sub-Regional Office for North Africa and FAO Representative in Tunisia, and Ms. Naïma Mahfoudhi, Director General of Plant Health and Agricultural Inputs Control.

Agadir (Morocco) - In the face of the persistent threat posed by the Desert Locust to food security and the livelihoods of rural populations, the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) launched, this Monday in Agadir, a Regional Training of Trainers on Desert Locust Spraying Techniques. Organized in collaboration with the National Desert Locust Control Centre of Morocco (CNLAA), this session brings together for one week experienced surveyors and specialists from the CLCPRO member countries as well as from the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Central Region (CRC).

Algiers (Algeria) - The Executive Secretariat of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) received, this Thursday in Algiers, His Excellency Colonel Mahaman Elhadj Ousmane, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Niger, on the sidelines of a high-level official mission carried out by the Nigerien delegation in Algeria.

Agadir (Morocco) - As part of the Master’s programme in Desert Locust Science, the Executive Secretary of CLCPRO, Dr Mohamed Lemine Hamouny, delivered a module on preventive control of the desert locust to students, from 29 March to 4 April 2026.

Adrar (Algeria) - As part of its capacity-building programme, the CLCPRO, in collaboration with the National Institute for Plant Protection (INPV), organized a practical field training for students enrolled in the Higher Technicians cycle in Plant Protection, specializing in Acridology, delivered at the Specialized Institute of Agricultural Training (ITSFA) in Algiers.

Neuquén, Argentina - The Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) is participating in the 15th International Congress of Orthopterology (ICO2026), held from 8 to 12 March 2026 in San Martín de los Andes, in the province of Neuquén, Argentina. This international scientific event is organized by the Orthopterists’ Society and brings together researchers, specialists and practitioners from around the world working on Orthoptera, particularly locusts and grasshoppers.

Dakar (Sénégal) -The Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) is organizing, from February 9 to 11, 2026, the regional closing workshop of the project financed by the French Development Agency (AFD), entitled “Consolidating the foundations of preventive control and developing operational research on the Desert Locust in the Western Region” (2021–2025).

Rome - At the FAO Employee Recognition Awards ceremony held in Rome in December 2025, Dr. Mohamed Lemine Hamouny, Executive Secretary of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO), received the Year25 Medal, marking 25 years of continuous service within the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Rome - The Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) is participating in the Thirty-fourth Session of the FAO Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in South-West Asia (SWAC34), held at FAO Headquarters in Rome. This session brings together India, Iran, Pakistan, and FAO experts from Afghanistan, united around a common objective: strengthening regional desert locust management, advancing technological innovation, and reinforcing national preventive capacities.
