The GFCM Regional Repository of National Legislation (GFCM-Lex) is an online platform that provides access to relevant fisheries and aquaculture legislation from countries implementing GFCM decisions. It offers an accessible overview of national legal frameworks on fisheries management and conservation, monitoring, control and surveillance, aquaculture, and related domains.
GFCM-Lex also supports capacity development across the region through training sessions on issues such as bycatch and small-scale fisheries, raises awareness and informs stakeholders about GFCM decisions and processes.
The platform is currently under finalization and will be available later in 2026.
GFCM action
- Regularly maintain GFCM-Lex to ensure access to up-to-date national legislation on fisheries and aquaculture.
- Facilitate the comparative analysis of legal frameworks and the sharing of best practices across the region.
- Raise awareness on compliance issues through a series of factsheets providing information and guidance on compliance tools and issues, such as joint inspection schemes, catch documentation schemes and abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear.
- Contribute to regional efforts to prevent, deter and eliminate IUU fishing and promote sustainable fisheries practices.
- Support efforts to enhance environmental protection and strengthen social protection for fishers and aquaculture producers.
- Support CPCs in transposing GFCM decisions into their national legal frameworks.
