The GFCM provides targeted legal and technical assistance to support CPCs in the effective implementation of GFCM decisions. This includes reviewing national legislation to identify gaps and providing tailored guidance to align legal provisions with GFCM measures.
The GFCM supports CPCs in transposing GFCM decisions into national legislation, developing MCS measures, and preparing national plans of action to combat IUU fishing. These efforts help strengthen national legal frameworks and contribute to a coordinated regional approach to sustainable fisheries management.

GFCM action
- Assist countries in preparing national plans of action to combat IUU fishing, in line with the Regional Plan of Action to Combat Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing in the GFCM area of application (RPOA-IUU) and the FAO International Plan of Action to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IPOA-IUU).
- Provide technical expertise to assess national legislation and identify areas for improvement, including by legislative amendments to strengthen compliance with GFCM requirements.
- Provide hands-on support to CPCs in transposing GFCM decisions into national legal frameworks.
