The Compliance Committee reviews the implementation of the decisions adopted by the GFCM and seeks clarifications when compliance issues arise. Through the compliance assessment mechanism, the Compliance Committee systematically evaluates and categorizes cases of non-compliance by contracting parties and cooperating non-contracting parties (CPCs). Where prolonged and unjustified non-compliance by a CPC undermines the effectiveness of GFCM measures, the GFCM has the authority to take appropriate measures, in line with the Basic texts of the GFCM, including corrective actions, targeted capacity development and technical assistance.

GFCM action
- Assess compliance with GFCM decisions through a dedicated compliance assessment mechanism based on formal data submissions and national reports
- Identify potential cases of non-compliance and inform decisions to address non-compliance, including targeted capacity development
- Support the implementation of GFCM measures across the region
- Maintain the GFCM decisions database and the Compendium of GFCM decisions compiling all recommendations, resolutions and other decisions adopted since 1976.
