Regularly updated information on fishing fleet characteristics and activities is therefore essential to monitor fishing capacity and landings and to support the effective and sustainable management of fishery resources in the long term.
Fleet-related data include number of vessels, tonnage, engine power, fleet segments and landings by species. These data are submitted by members to the GFCM, in line with relevant recommendations, through the DCRF online platform. In addition to this, landing data are sourced from catch statistics in the GFCM Capture Production Database (1970–2024).
GFCM action
- Update key information on fleet register and fishing vessels operating in the GFCM area of application
- Regularly monitor fishing vessels authorized to operate in geographically defined areas and to target specific species
- Compile comprehensive and up-to-date information on landings in the GFCM area of application
