Implementation of the FLRM
The project, "Implementation of the Forest and Landscape Restoration Mechanism (FLRM)" was established in November 2014 with the financial support of the Korea Forest Service (KFS) of the Republic of Korea (RoK). This project aimed to create the FLRM, an organization that could play a leading role in forest and landscape restoration (FLR) at global, regional and national levels. As the first phase of the project came to an end in 2020 with excellent achievements for building a solid foundation of the FLRM as a sustainable mechanism, KFS approved its financial extension to 2025. The main objective of the second phase of the project is to stabilize the settlement of the FLRM and implement FLR at a large scale under the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030).
Beneficiary Countries
During the first phase of the project, technical assistance and monitoring actions for FLR implementation have been conducted in Cambodia, Guatemala, Lebanon, Peru, the Philippines, Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). In the second phase, the countries that will receive assistance will be Burkina Faso, Morocco, Lebanon, Cambodia and Vanuatu.
Resource Mobilization
In the first phase, the FLRM successfully pursued resource mobilization efforts and expanded more than 20 beneficiary countries in several regions (Africa, Mediterranean and Asia-Pacific). Building on the achievement, the second phase of KFS funding will support FLR regional initiatives in the Mediterranean region (Morocco and Lebanon) and the Asia-Pacific region (Cambodia and Vanuatu) and continue to seek additional resource mobilization opportunities to scale up FLR initiatives.
Besides, the FLRM will play a central role in supporting knowledge dissemination, partnerships, and outreach for all the countries in which the FLRM operates and beyond.
