Every year on 5 December, World Soil Day (WSD), the expert community conducts a kind of audit of soil health and holds forums to raise awareness about the importance of soil cover for sustainable agrifood systems, climate change mitigation, biodiversity, and human well-being.

On 18 November, Russian and international medical experts, veterinarians and environmentalists held a Round Table on the occasion of the World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week. The event took place at the platform of Rossiya Segodnya International Multimedia Press Center in Moscow.

The FAO Food Price Index eased further in October, with all indices but vegetable oils down

On 21–23 October 2025, Eduard Porvatov, National Consultant from FAO Liaison Office with the Russian Federation, took part in the East and North-East Asia Multi-Stakeholder Forum on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The event was organized by ESCAP Subregional Office for East and North-East Asia (ENEA) and hosted in Ulaanbaatar by the Government of Mongolia.

On 20 October, as part of the celebrations on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in renowned Timiryazev Academy, the oldest Russian agrarian academy and FAO partner university, an exhibition of documents from the archives of the Ministry of foreign affairs of the Russian Federation and photos of the commemorative medals from the collection of Oleg Kobiakov, Director of the FAO Liaison Office with the Russian Federation, was organized. 

In 2025, the International System for Agricultural Science and Technology (AGRIS), managed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), proudly marks a landmark achievement: the database now offers global access to more than 16 million structured bibliographic records.

THE ARCTIC WILL CONTRIBUTE TO OUR PROSPERITY

On 19 September, Oleg Kobiakov, Director of the FAO Moscow Office, spoke at the National Centre Russia in Moscow during the presentation of the Arctic Dossier, the national report on the contribution of the Russian Federation to restoring Arctic ecosystems.

Eduard Porvatov, Consultant of the FAO Liaison Office with the Russian Federation, took part in the Ninth North and Central Asia Multi-Stakeholder Forum on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals organized by ESCAP. The Forum was held in Almaty, the Republic of Kazakhstan, from 3 to 5 September.

On 9–10 September, the 4th Annual Consultative Meeting of the Regional Laboratory Network on Antimicrobial Resistance in food and agriculture in Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia (EECCA) countries was held.

The special session on the UN Development Agenda beyond 2030 of the 10th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), traditionally hosted by Vladivostok on the Russky Island, was a key event of that jubilee international forum which is rightfully recognized as a leading platform for economic development of the Far East and expansion of international cooperation in Asia and the Pacific.

Rome – The benchmark of world food commodity prices remained largely unchanged in August, as increases in meat, sugar and vegetable oil prices offset declines in cereal and dairy quotations, according to the new report released by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Friday.

Rome – The FAO Food Price Index, a benchmark for world food commodity prices, averaged 130.1 points in July 2025, up 1.6 percent from June, driven primarily by rising international prices of meat and vegetable oils. Despite this monthly increase, the index remains 18.8 percent below its peak in March 2022, although 7.6 percent higher than its level in July 2024.

The OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2025–2034 provides an assessment of the ten-year prospects for agricultural commodity and fish markets at national, regional, and global levels. The report highlights how rising incomes and urbanization are increasing demand for animal-source foods in middle-income countries, while also offering insights into pathways for eliminating undernourishment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It is a collaborative effort between the OECD and FAO, prepared with inputs from Member countries and international commodity organizations.
