Webinar "From satellites to fields. Innovations supporting farmers" WaPOR

Virtual Event, 22/11/2021

The webinar, organized by the FAO Land and Water Division, will launch the second phase of the WaPOR project.

The FAO Land and Water Division invites you to the webinar "From satellites to fields. Innovations supporting farmers" organized on 22 November 2021, from 12.30 to 14.00 (Central European Time, CET) where the second phase of the WaPOR project will be officially launched.

The second phase of the project started in January 2021 and is funded for 5 years by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It follows a first phase which has seen the effective development of the FAO portal on Water Productivity through Open access of Remotely sensed derived data (WaPOR) that provides key data on water and vegetation dynamics in support of the monitoring and the reporting of SDGs and climate action.

WaPOR 2 focuses on the direct demands of both policy makers and farmers, including smallholders, to solve practical problems and increase land and water productivity. The project has started engaging stakeholders in partner countries to identify and develop, in collaborative ways, innovative solutions and tools tailored to local needs. An emphasis on capacity development, with focus on digital skills, will further promote youth active participation and inclusion in the sector.

With information freely available for over 10 years, this new phase seeks to answer FAO member's demand for practical applications at different scales and locally relevant solutions to monitor and effectively improve agricultural land and water productivity.

This webinar will reflect on the results of the first phase of WaPOR and present the objectives and focuses proposed for the second phase. As WaPOR is already used within and outside FAO for a growing range of applications and domains this webinar will also showcase its contribution to the FAO Hand-in-Hand initiative and Multi-Disciplinary Fund, as well as its usefulness for the private sector through existing cooperation.

The event will be held in English with interpretation in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish.
