Press release: As World Forestry Congress opens, FAO advocates for vital role of trees and forest

This event marked the official opening of the XV World Forestry Congress (XV WFC).

The Congress served as an opportunity to focus on the current state and future of world forestry in the context of climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, the global developmental agenda and other major agreements such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Global Forest Goals (GFGs), the Paris Agreement on climate change, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, and the post-2020 Global Biodiversity framework, but also to share the host country, Korea’s forest restoration experience.

  1. Officially open the Congress, welcome participants and provide high-level opening statements.
  2. Introduce the theme of the Congress - Building a Green, Healthy and Resilient Future with Forests.
  3. Share experience in forest restoration, cultural properties and traditions of the host country.
  4. Stimulate international interest and lay the groundwork for the success of the Congress.
