It focused on two fundamental questions:

  • What needs to be done in forest-relevant areas in order to achieve the SDGs by 2030, especially where progress lags behind expectations?
  • How and to what extent the pandemic has changed our understanding of sustainability and what needs to be done differently in a post-COVID world?

Building on the SDGs and the Decade of Action as the overarching framework, dialogue participants, representing major stakeholder groups and regions, will discuss challenges of the global community and opportunities for action on the ground.

The dialogue is expected to offer political guidance and inspiration for all plenary and sub-theme sessions and special events. The event also seeks to establish direct links to major processes with relevance to the global forest sector. The outcomes of the high-level dialogue will be instrumental in identifying ways and means for operationalizing the recommendations of the Congress and ensuring that follow up actions will be taken at all levels.
