El Comité Coordinador para Asia se creó en el 11.º período de sesiones de la Comisión del Codex Alimentarius celebrado en Roma (Italia), en julio de 1976. Su primera reunión se celebró en Nueva Delhi (India) en enero de 1977.
El coordinador regional trabaja en el Ministerio de Agricultura, Silvicultura y Pesca del Japón.
Japón, en su calidad de coordinador regional para Asia, aspira a alcanzar los siguientes objetivos, manteniendo al mismo tiempo los valores fundamentales del Codex, es decir, la inclusión, la colaboración, la creación de consenso y la transparencia:
- Fomentar la colaboración y la coordinación dentro de la región facilitando el intercambio de opiniones, de modo que los miembros asiáticos puedan estar bien informados y participar eficazmente en la Comisión y sus órganos subsidiarios; y
- Promover debates abiertos y constructivos en el Comité Coordinador Regional para identificar las cuestiones actuales, emergentes y críticas relativas a la protección de la salud del consumidor y la garantía de prácticas justas en el comercio de alimentos dentro de la región, y abordar estas cuestiones de manera oportuna.
The Food and Agriculture Centre of Excellence at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will concentrate on poultry for this year’s World Food Safety Day. India’s ‘Progress, Harmony and Development’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHD CCI), which is based in New Delhi, will host a 6-hour ‘virtual celebration’ of World Food Safety Day on 7 June.
With sponsorship from a wide range of private sector parties, the event will explore a number of important food safety issues within the food industry, with an emphasis on the promotion of industry, trade and entrepreneurship.
