Comité Coordinador Regional del Codex para Asia (CCASIA) - Coordinador regional: Japón
El Comité Coordinador para Asia se creó en el 11.º período de sesiones de la Comisión del Codex Alimentarius celebrado en Roma (Italia), en julio de 1976. Su primera reunión se celebró en Nueva Delhi (India) en enero de 1977.
El coordinador regional trabaja en el Ministerio de Agricultura, Silvicultura y Pesca del Japón.
Japón, en su calidad de coordinador regional para Asia, aspira a alcanzar los siguientes objetivos, manteniendo al mismo tiempo los valores fundamentales del Codex, es decir, la inclusión, la colaboración, la creación de consenso y la transparencia:
- Fomentar la colaboración y la coordinación dentro de la región facilitando el intercambio de opiniones, de modo que los miembros asiáticos puedan estar bien informados y participar eficazmente en la Comisión y sus órganos subsidiarios; y
- Promover debates abiertos y constructivos en el Comité Coordinador Regional para identificar las cuestiones actuales, emergentes y críticas relativas a la protección de la salud del consumidor y la garantía de prácticas justas en el comercio de alimentos dentro de la región, y abordar estas cuestiones de manera oportuna.

India’s Confederation of Indian Industry to address poultry-related issues for World Food Safety Day
The Food and Agriculture Centre of Excellence at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will concentrate on poultry for this year’s World Food Safety Day. In collaboration with the multi stakeholder initiative, Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan (SKA), the CII will run two digital training events aimed at the prevention and control of avian influenza and COVID19, by “addressing the myths and concerns related to food safety of poultry products while also controlling and preventing its spread.”

Progress, harmony and development group in India will host World Food Safety Day webinar
India’s ‘Progress, Harmony and Development’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHD CCI), which is based in New Delhi, will host a 6-hour ‘virtual celebration’ of World Food Safety Day on 7 June.
With sponsorship from a wide range of private sector parties, the event will explore a number of important food safety issues within the food industry, with an emphasis on the promotion of industry, trade and entrepreneurship.

Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation will be ‘united for safer food’ on World Food Safety Day

For fans of the Food Safety Commission of Japan’s (FSCJ) Kids Box feature, standby for a revamp! The FSJC is planning to introduce new characters to mark World Food Safety Day, so check them out on 7 June at:

Philippines Food Safety Academy to hold a month of food safety webinars
FoodSHAP, the Food Safety and Hygiene Academy of the Philippines, has organized free Food Safety Webinars for the whole month of June, which are aimed at “consumers at home, in school, and in the tourism and hospitality industry.”

China to run a wide-ranging food safety week across the nation
The Chinese government has announced plans to conduct a full range of food safety activities at national and local levels across a whole “food safety promotion week” of fora, lectures and activities. The events, starting on 8 June, will be conducted under the theme “Advocating Thrift and Believing, Guarding Chinese Food under the Sunshine.”

Japan’s Food Safety Management Association (JFSM) is hosting a “7-day challenge” to celebrate World Food Safety Day. Starting on 1 June, the initiative is ongoing, with three events now complete:

Zhe Jiang University educates children on food safety, spreading the word to families and changing society
If World Food Safety Day is about spreading information about food safety, then the Zhe Jiang University’s 2020 project must be declared a roaring success. The Department of Food Science and Nutrition team in the College of Biosystems Engineering and Food Science, Zhe Jiang University, established a “Food Safety Popularization on Campus” project for World Food Safety Day last year, with the aim of educating young people through basic science lectures, micro-class competitions, webcasts, theatrical performances and a free app.

The Republic of Korea celebrates its 20th Food Safety Day
This year, 14 May marked the twentieth annual Food Safety Day in the Republic of Korea.
