Call for a renaissance in forest education

Well-trained foresters are vital to address some of the world’s greatest problems and to achieve the SDGs. Climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss, emerging zoonotic diseases, rural poverty, and malnutrition all have direct links with the state of the world’s forests and the people that manage and protect them.

Forests and people: 25 years of community forestry

Almost 25 years have elapsed since the concept of community-based forest management emerged as a focus for addressing the linkages between forestry and rural people. Many countries are still at an early stage in the process of developing and introducing the concepts used in community forestry that may be appropriate to their situations. In others, community forestry has become central to the way forest resources are managed.
