The Dominican Republic’s Universidad ISA to host conference on “Science and Food Safety”
To celebrate World Food Safety Day this year, the Dominican Republic’s ISA University will host a 1-hour online conference to explore issues around science and food safety, with a focus on the World Food Safety Day slogan “Food safety is everyone’s business.”
The university has teamed up with a local initiative called Inocuidad Gemela RD and David A. Carroll, from the School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, Boston, USA, to explore “the importance of the food industry, safe food handling and steps to guarantee food safety.”
The discussions will split into two sections – the first will be overseen by Ana and María Tavárez from Inocuidad Gemela RD, who will look at:
- Basic concepts of Quality
- Food Safety and Security
- Incidents of Food Technology in Food Safety
Dr David Carroll will then conduct a discussion on:
- Risks to food safety in agricultural production systems
- Farm-level solutions - improved agricultural practices to protect the safety of agricultural products
- Field preparation, planting, crop management, harvest, post-harvest management
- Animal production systems
- Management of water, soil fertility and natural resources (agroecosystem management)
The event will take place on Google Meet.
