法典标准可笼统概括，也可详尽具体。
通用标准、准则和操作规范
这些文本是法典文本的核心内容，适用于所有产品和产品类别。它们通常涉及卫生操作、标签、添加剂、检验和认证、营养以及兽药和农药残留。
商品标准
食典商品标准指的是某一具体产品，尽管食典委正在进一步制定食物群标准，即果汁和果浆的通用标准，而非每一个水果的通用标准。
食品标准的统一有助于保护消费者健康，并尽可能促进国际贸易。
法典标准是如何制定的。
同食典委其他工作一样，制定标准的程序非常明确、公开、透明。
国家政府或食典委的附属委员会通常会对待制定的标准提出建议 ，然后拟定一份讨论文件 ，概述拟议标准将达到什么目标，接着拟定一份项目文件，说明本项工作的时限及其优先事项。
- 开始－食典委对项目文件进行审查，决定是否按照提议制定标准。
- 制定标准 －食典委秘书处安排起草一份拟议标准，向各成员国政府、观察员组织和其他法典委员会征求两轮意见和特殊建议。
- 结束－制定标准可能需要数年。经食典委通过后，法典标准被添加到《食品法典》，并在本网站进行公布。
