Compilation and analysis of the national Food Balance Sheet in Comoros

The first Food and Balance Sheet (FBS) training for the members of the national Technical Working Group (TWG) in Comoros was conducted from 12-16 December 2022 and led by Mr. Dominique Habimana from FAO HQ.

The opening remarks were given by Dr. Fouad Mohamed Oussouf, Director of Direction Nationale des Stratégies Agricoles et de l’élevage (DNSAE) au Ministère de l'Agriculture, de la Pêche et de L'Environnement, du Tourisme et de l'Artisanat (MAPETA), and Mr. Ediamine Bedja, who is the interim FAO Representative in charge of programs in Comoros.

The event was aimed at the assessment of data availability in the country, followed by detailed training on the FBS methodology, including concepts and definitions, and the systematic steps to follow during the compilation of national FBS and practical exercises.

The national FBS Technical Working Group (TWG) has 10 members (60% of males and 40% of female)  from different Government institutions called: Direction Nationale des Stratégie Agricole et de l'élevage (DNSAE) (leading the TWG), Direction Générale des Ressources Halieutiques (DGRH, Institut Nationale des Statistiques et des Études Économiques (INSEED), Institut Nationale de Recherche pour l'Agriculture, la Pêche et l'Environnement (INRAPE), and Direction de la santé et de la Nutrition.

The first FAO technical mission on FBS in Comoros was concluded by Mr. Said Mze. a representative of Direction Nationale des Stratégie Agricole et de l'élevage (DNSAE).

The trainings and technical assistance activities continue remotely in Comoros for compiling the national FBS. The work will be finalized and discussed in the next mission planned for September 2023.
