Zambia
Following an in-depth needs analysis through bilateral consultations organized between FAO and Zambia’s counterparts responsible for producing and using agricultural statistics, and based on the information collected through a questionnaire prepared by FAO and completed by the national agricultural statistical team, the following activities, planned for the period 2021-2024, are implemented in Zambia with the aim to fill gaps in different levels of technical expertise and capacities.
- HR Policies: Support in evaluating and establishing adequate human resources policies that allow the national statistical units to operate appropriately;
- Scholarship Programme: Participation in the scholarship programme;
- Basic training in agricultural statistics;
- AGPROD: Support in preparing survey tools for agricultural production surveys;
- Master Sampling Frame (MSF): Technical assistance in developing, using and maintaining a cost-effective Master Sampling Frame (MSF) to implement an integrated system of agricultural surveys;
- TOOLS: Technical assistance on the use of statistical software tools for data processing and analysis;
- Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI): Training and support to the country in developing, implementing, and maintaining CAPI-based surveys to improve data quality and cost-efficiency of agricultural surveys;
- Farm Typology: Support in developing farm typologies for improved policy analysis.


GSARS Conducts Successful Workshops in Zambia and Zimbabwe to Enhance Agricultural Statistics and Strategic Planning

The Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics recently concluded two highly productive workshops in Zambia and Zimbabwe from May 19th to June 1st, 2024. Led by Statistician Lassina Pare, these missions aimed to facilitate a regional training on basic agricultural statistics in Lusaka and provide technical support for finalizing the Strategic Plan for Agricultural and Rural Statistics (SPARS) design in Harare.

The Global Strategy for the Improvement of Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARS) reinforced its commitment to enhancing the caliber of agricultural and rural statistics by conducting a pivotal training workshop on the utilization of software packages used for the analysis of statistical data in Zambia. This workshop, taking place from July 24th to August 4th, 2023, elucidated the profound role accurate and timely data plays in decision-making and policy formulation, particularly in the agricultural sector.
