This week, the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics is taking part in the Ninth International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS IX), in Washington DC.

ICAS brings together experts from around the world to discuss best practices and research in response to the changing needs and opportunities for agricultural statistics.

This year, the conference is hosted by the World Bank and the United States Department of Agriculture, in coordination with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, under the theme Harnessing Data to Inform an Equitable and Sustainable Agri-Food Systems Transformation.

The Global Strategy was presented during an Invited Paper Session titled:  GSARS II – Continuous efforts for improvements in agricultural statistics in developing countries.

The session, chaired by Lassina Paré, GSARS Statistician, focused on the impact of the programme on national agricultural statistics systems, presenting experiences and expectations from the beneficiary countries, in particular Madagascar, Ghana and Burkina Faso. During the discussion, participants had the possibility to exchange ideas, lessons learned and possible future improvements.
