Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics

Indicators calculation training and restitution in Burkina Faso

13/04/2023

A session to calculate CAADP indicators was held in Ouagadougou from March 14 to 16, 2023, to benefit six male participants from the Directorate in charge of agricultural statistics. The training was provided by Maurice Taondyandé, a statistician in the FAO Statistics Division. After the introductory words of the Assistant to the FAO Representative in Burkina Faso and the Head of the service in charge of data processing and analysis of the said department, the work took place over three (3) days by processing and the analysis of the databases of the permanent agricultural survey of 2022.

The results were reported on March 17 to the Permanent Secretariat for the Coordination of Agricultural Sector Policies (SP/CPSA), which is the focal point of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP). The restitution workshop brought together around twenty participants from the structures in charge of preparing the biennial report on implementing the Malabo/CAADP commitments for the transformation of agriculture in Africa.

The opening ceremony and the work were chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the CPSA. The improvements made in calculating the CAADP indicators were well appreciated by the participants. However, they create, for some indicators, breaks with the old values. It was recommended to the team to recalculate, when possible, the values before 2022, according to the methodological improvements made by the Global Strategy.
