Under the framework of the Global Strategy to improve Agriculture and Rural Statistics (GSARS), the FAO, in collaboration with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) and the CAADP unit at the Kenya Ministry of Agriculture organized an in-person technical training workshop from November 28th to December 2nd in Nairobi, Kenya.

The five days hands-on training workshop, which was led by Stella Wambugu and Franck Cachia (both statisticians at the FAO Statistics Division), aimed at training the different stakeholders on the computation of selected indicators of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP) and farm economic indicators.

The workshop attracted 25 participants drawn from the KNBS, AKADEMIYA 2063, Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs (MBEMA) and Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO).

During the workshop, the trainers covered the methodological aspects in the computation of 10 agriculture-related CAADP indicators and farm economic indicators (including farm income and the cost of production). In addition, an analysis of gaps in the existing country database was done and documented. The participants appreciated the content of the training and found it quite relevant in building their capacity to compute the indicators for the next CAADP biennial reporting cycle. They further expressed interest in filling the identified gaps in data in future surveys.
