Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics

Madagascar gets technical assistance on Agricultural Production Survey

13/04/2023

As part of the GSARSII technical assistance to Madagascar, a technical workshop was organized from 7th to 11th November 2022. This mission helped the country to design data collection tools for the agricultural production survey (AGPROD).

The content of the questionnaire is based on the core module proposed as part of the collection tools developed under the 50x2030 initiative. The discussions led to the adoption of a standard questionnaire that provides for a single visit to farms.

The sections were reviewed in group work with the active participation of 14 national executives, 6 of whom were women (i.e. a rate of 43% of women).

The design of the CAPI form on Survey Solution was done in plenary with a video projection of all stages of the design. Some participants with a good level of computer manipulation actively contributed to the CAPI design of the different sections of the questionnaire under the supervision of the trainer.  CAPI design work was continued in online meetings over several weeks after the mission.

This mission made it possible to design the tools (questionnaire and CAPI application) necessary for the implementation of data collection for the agricultural production survey of Madagascar.

Work to improve the questionnaire continued beyond the mission, a section on rural land law and the consideration of gender aspects were inserted into the tools initially developed in November 2022.

The final version of the collection tools was delivered at the end of March 2023.
