The Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARS II) team organized the first of three trainings on DISSEMINATION in Ghana. It was held at FAO premises in Accra from 29 May to 2 June 2023.

The workshop included 15 participants from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) and the Ghana Statistical Services (GSS), who represented a broad variety of experts working in agriculture statistics and dissemination in Ghana. Out of the 15 participants, 7 were females, making up roughly half of the training's participants.

The training workshop sought primarily to sensitize on the importance of adopting a dissemination strategy in the framework of the National Statistics System and to highlight the overarching factors related with the setting up of sustainable data dissemination programs. Agricultural data dissemination practices in Ghana were also discussed in light of international best practices and the fundamental principles of UN official statistics. During the training sessions, participants gained broad expertise and knowledge in a range of topics relevant to data dissemination, including writing and communicating about agriculture statistics in an effective manner, as well as the need of generating storytelling on statistical data to obtain a more effective impact. In practical exercises, the participants were able to propose drafts of well-structured statistical briefs based on existing data. This provided participants with the opportunity to test firsthand how the use of agricultural data can inform policy making and monitoring processes.
