As part of the implementation of the second phase, the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARS II) organized in Egypt the first of a series of three trainings on DISSEMINATION in the context of the National Statistics System. The training was held at FAO premises in Egypt from the 19th to the 23rd of February, 2023 and it was taught by Mrs. Yasmine El Husseiny.

The workshop brought together 15 experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MoALR) and Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) who represented a wide range of experts working in agriculture statistics and dissemination in Egypt. The training witnessed high female representation, such that out of 15 participants, 12 were females.

The training workshop aimed mainly to raise awareness about the dissemination strategy of official statistics and present the overarching aspects associated with the setting up of sustainable data dissemination programs. It focused basically on the organizational and technical infrastructure requirements for effective data dissemination and data preservation programs.

Agricultural data dissemination practices in Egypt were also discussed based on global best practices and in accordance with the fundamental principles of UN official statistics.

The data dissemination strategy in Egypt and the identification of the main commonalities and differences with the dissemination policies in other countries were also discussed.

The training workshop covered also writing and communicating about agriculture statistics in an effective manner and the importance of creating storytelling on statistical data. In practical exercises, the experts were able to propose draft statistical notes based on existing data.
