The Global Strategy continues to enhance statistical data dissemination capacity in Egypt, with a focus on aggregated statistical data and data release via interactive data portals

As part of the implementation of the second phase of the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARS II), FAO organized the second training of the DISSEMINATION package in Egypt.

The training was held at FAO premises in Cairo from 22 to 24 May 2023. Fourteen national experts, of which 11 women, from the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MoALR) and Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) engaged in the discussions.

The activity aimed at raising awareness on the importance of disseminating aggregated data via modern and web-based tools such as spreadsheets and interactive data portals, for improved usability. Technical topics covered during the sessions included open data standards and principles (definition, technical formats, licenses, etc.). Practical tips and easy-to-implement solutions were also introduced. For instance, the participants were guided on creating datasets and updating existing ones on the Open Data Portal of Egypt and generating dashboards and advanced visualizations. Besides technical discussions, the participants also took up on the importance of well-planned statistical data dissemination for smooth and timely dissemination of survey results as well as to guarantee the feasibility and sustainability of dissemination programs over time.
