Координационный комитет по Азии был учрежден на11-й сессии Комиссии “Кодекс Алиментариус” проходившей в Риме (Италия) в июле 1976 года. Первое заседание Комитета состоялось в Нью-Дели (Индия) в январе 1977 года.
Региональный координатор ведет свою работу на базе Китайского национального центра оценки рисков безопасности пищевых продуктов.
Среди основных приоритетов Китая в качестве координатора следует выделить расширение участия в заседаниях Кодекса, обеспечение приоритета деятельности Кодекса в регионе, совершенствование согласования стандартов безопасности пищевых продуктов и ускоренное возобновление полноценной работы координационного комитета за счет обмена данными и регулярного предоставления новой информации по безопасности пищевых продуктов в регионе.
Китай также стремится укрепить сотрудничество с организациями-наблюдателями и наладить эффективную и действенную связь между Секретариатом Кодекса и региональными членами ФАО и ВОЗ.
FAO Pakistan, in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry Commissioner Office of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, conducted a three-day workshop on Codex standards and foodborne antimicrobial resistance (AMR). FAO Cambodia, in collaboration with the National Animal Health and Production Research Institute of the Government of Cambodia, trained 40 stakeholders from the livestock sector about the ways to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and implement related Codex guidelines. FAO Pakistan hosted a roadmap workshop to discuss priorities in addressing foodborne antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Islamabad, Pakistan, on 11 September 2023. The event took place under the “Action to support implementation of Codex AMR texts (ACT)” project, with more than 60 participants from Pakistan, the ACT project coordinators in Cambodia and Nepal, and the regional coordinator for Asia.

Nepal assessed the ability to test for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in food samples by its central food safety laboratory as part of the “Action to support implementation of Codex AMR texts (ACT)” project. It is with great sadness that we report the loss of one of Codex’ most active delegate. Hajime Toyofuku, Professor at the Yamaguchi University, Japan, and Head of the Japanese delegation to many Codex meetings, from food hygiene to fish and fishery products, passed away in September 2023.
In all the sessions of the different Codex Committees he attended, Prof. Toyofuku was always prepared and informed, working towards progress, while also making sure Codex respected its mandate and procedures.

In 1970, an ambitious programme to develop India’s dairy sector was launched under the name “Operation Flood”. The aim was to scale up a successful dairy cooperative at Anand in Gujarat State.
