في عام 1999، أنشأت الدورة الثالثة والعشرون لهيئة الدستور الغذائي لجنة التنسيق الإقليمية لهيئة الدستور الغذائي في الشرق الأدنى، والتي جمعت بين بلدان منطقة الشرق الأدنى (لمنظمة الأغذية والزراعة) ومنطقة شرق المتوسط (لمنظمة الصحة العالمية)، وعقدت اللجنة اجتماعها الأول عام 2001 في القاهرة بمصر.
ويقع مقر المنسق الإقليمي الحالي للشرق الأدنى في الهيئة العامة السعودية للغذاء والدواء في الرياض.
تشمل أهداف المنسق في قيادة المنطقة في هيئة الدستور الغذائي تطوير وتعزيز جهات الاتصال لهيئة الدستور الغذائي واللجان الوطنية للهيئة، فضلا عن تحسين الاتصال والتنسيق بين أعضاء لجنة التنسيق لهيئة الدستور الغذائي في الشرق الأدنى، مع المناطق الأخرى ومع أمانة هيئة الدستور الغذائي.
ويتمثل الهدف الآخر في تطوير تبادل الخبرات العلمية والتقنية بين البلدان ذات الخبرة الواسعة في هذا المجال وتلك ذات الخبرة الأقل في المنطقة.
كما يهدف المنسق إلى تعزيز استخدام مواصفات هيئة الدستور الغذائي كأساس للتشريعات واللوائح الوطنية، ومواصلة العمل في تطوير ومراجعة مواصفات هيئة الدستور الغذائي مع مراعاة المصالح الإقليمية.

Saudi Arabia symposium on food safety planned for World Food Safety Day
A team of Food Professionals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has planned World Food Safety Day related symposium in the three cities, Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam.

The Codex Secretariat has learned of the untimely passing of the former Codex Contact Point for Egypt, Ahmed M. Elhelw.

The United Arab Emirates’ food safety measures highlighted in World Food Safety Day event
The Dubai municipality hosted a virtual World Food Safety Day symposium on 7 June where national and local municipal efforts were showcased. The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) participated in the celebration of World Food Safety Day through a series of events and activities under the theme “Safe food now for a healthy tomorrow.”
