Ethiopia’s national Codex visit: a journey of improvement
Embarking on a transformative quest, delegates from the Ethiopian National Codex Committee made a pivotal trip across Europe via France, Brussels and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, arranged by the European Union (EU) Codex Contact Point. This trip was an opening to enhance Ethiopia's involvement in Codex activities at national, regional and global levels.
The delegates gained an immense insight during their seven-day tour, taking inspiration from France’s and the Netherlands’ roles hosting the Codex Committee on General Principles (CCGP) and the Codex Committee on Contaminants in Food (CCCF), respectively. The delegates also got experience on bridging knowledge gaps and fostering proficiency in aligning national standards with international Codex standards.
The all-round experience enhanced understanding of the pivotal role of national experts in Codex proposal development, commenting and risk assessment and the art of enhancing the engagement of stakeholders as key players in advancing Codex activities at national level.
Finally, the Ethiopian delegates expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the EU, France, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands Codex offices for their unwavering support. The Ethiopian delegation also highlighted the significance of continuing consultation and support for progress in Codex activities.
