The national Codex programme

National Codex consultative mechanism
To carry out consultations on the Codex Alimentarius Commission at the national level in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Interagency Coordination Council of the Codex Alimentarius Commission has been established and approved by the order of the Chairman of the Committee for Public Health Protection of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 103-OD dated May 22, 2018. This Council includes representatives of all interested parties, namely, representatives of the Ministry of Health of RoK, the Committee for Public Health Protection of the Ministry of Health, the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision, the Committee of State Inspection in Agro-Industrial Complex and the Central Office of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Center for Expertise, the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs Atameken, Kazakhstan Institute of Standardization, Committee for Technical Regulation and Metrology, Ministry of industry and the infrastructure development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition and various sectoral unions and private organizations, as well as leading national institutions in the field of agriculture and health. The frequency of the meetings of the Council is once in a quarter, if necessary more often. In addition, under the Committee for Public Health Protection of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, there is operating the Codex Alimentarius Team, which is fulfilling the functions of the Coordinator of the FAO / WHO Coordinating Committee for Europe of the Codex Alimentarius Commission from 2017 to 2020 with the possibility of authority extension until 2022. This team includes 5 specialists. They coordinate the work of national experts in the relevant Codex Committees and EWG, communication with the Codex Secretariat, the FAO/WHO European offices, the OIE Subregional Coordination Office, FAO and WHO country offices, and other functions assigned to the regional coordinating committee.

Risk Assessments and Scientific Data

National bodies providing risk assessment and scientific advice
Coordination and analysis of risk assessment in the Republic of Kazakhstan, depending on the object under control and the type of risk, is carried out by the Ministry of Health (the Committee for Public Health Protection) and the Ministry of Agriculture (the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision and the Committee for State Inspection in the AIC). Surveillance of foodborne diseases and monitoring of food contamination

National surveillance systems – foodborne disease in humans
Sanitary-epidemiological monitoring is functioning in the Republic of Kazakhstan. This type of monitoring is the state system of monitoring the health of the population and the environment, their analysis, assessment and forecast, as well as determining the causal links between the state of public health and the impact of environmental factors.
